This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

After much hubbub and rumor regarding the mobile release of Apex Legends following the Switch debut, today Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have announced that they’ll kick off the first regional beta tests for Apex Legends Mobile soon. Game director Chad Grenier said that starting this spring, the closed beta test for the popular battle royale game will only be open to a “small number” of Android owners in India and the Philippines at first. But over the course of 2021, they will roll the beta out to iOS phones and more regions around the world.

The first of these [beta tests] begins Spring 2021, and will only be available on Android devices. As we continue with testing, we’ll expand the size of these tests, add new regions, and implement iOS support. When we’re ready to go broader, we’ll launch a page that allows you to pre-register for the game and sign up for news about the betas.“

Respawn said that Apex Legends Mobile is currently developed by both the “regular team” along with a dedicated mobile game development team to ensure they can deliver a similar experience like in consoles and PC straight to our portable devices. The team promises that even in a mobile environment, the game will still be a free-to-play title and won’t include paid items “that grant a gameplay advantage.”

However, because Apex Legends Mobile is being built specifically for mobile phones, it will feature its own Battle Passes, cosmetics, and unlockables. Cross-play with the console or PC versions of Apex Legends is not a possibility.

Although Respawn is busy with the upcoming release of Apex Legends Mobile, more stuff (especially Titanfall-related stuff) is still coming to the consoles and PC. The latest update is set to release early in May, with the teaser Stories from the Outlands – “Northstar“, now available to check out.
