According to Collider, Ari Aster’s next A24 film, Disappointment Blvd., has added more names to the cast that already includes acting powerhouse and one of the better Jokers, Joaquin Phoenix. Those new actors are Kylie Rogers, Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, and Patti LuPone. Phoenix’s addition was announced back in February of this year. If you want to watch Phoenix really do his thing, I’d recommend Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here. And if you enjoy that, you will be ready for Phoenix’s other casting in another Ramsay film by the name of Polaris. Disappointment Blvd. will be Ari Aster’s third film for the horror gatekeepers; A24. His previous two being Hereditary and Midsommar.
Ari’s Actors
Kylie Rogers has been working in TV and film since 2012 with a couple of notables, including Shooter and Yellowstone. And Amy Ryan is best known as Michael Scott’s somewhat better half, Holly Flax from The Office, but she has also appeared in Birdman and The Wire, respectively. As for Nathan Lane, he is a Broadway icon but has appeared in such movies as Mouse Hunt, The Producers, The Lion King, and The Birdcage. While Patti LuPone has won two Tony awards and two Emmy awards.
Plot-wise…there’s almost nothing besides this from the IMDB page:
“A decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.”
Decades spanning sounds to me like someone may lose their mind, and if Phoenix plays that someone, then this should be something to definitely keep an eye on. While this may not be at the horror levels of Hereditary or Midsommar, it could be another step in the evolution of what modern-day horror is. Or it could just be just as horrific as his last two films. I personally hope this film takes the next step in what horror is.
