Arizona AutoZone Rep Calls Police on Customer For Allegedly Causing a Disturbance: ‘She doesn’t want to do her job’

This didn’t need to escalate

An Arizona man arrived at an AutoZone store so that he could buy parts for his car. Due to ignorance, the employee working tried to turn him away. But this led to a confrontation that ended in police being called, and a whole lot of drama for the customer.

TikTok user Imperialautophx, an AZ mechanic, sometimes visits his local AutoZone for parts. When he went to pick up brake pads and rotors and pay with his “commercial account,” he was denied right on the spot. They were supposedly closed for the day, and if he wanted his stuff, he’d have to use a different account.

@imperialautophx

Tuesday evening around 11:30 pm I went to autozone here in phx on 26th & mcdowell to purchase a set of pads and rotors for one of my fleet account the only autozone open close to me. When I walk in the sales rep asked me what I needed and proceeded to take a phone call on her person phone and told me to wait a minute as she keke’d with whoever jose was…… after she finished her minute long phone call she took my part ’s went to get the parts when she came back I said I had a commercial account she told me that wasn’t an option an commercial is closed and that I can pay DIY (walk in customer cost) or come back tomorrow or go else where (the 24 hr autozone 20 minutes opposite of where i needed to be) regardless commercial does not close and I had the police called on me because this young lady didn’t want to do her job before she picked it up to dial 911 the phone was sitting on the counter so it couldn’t ring this is a Pov of what local shop and business owners have to deal with. this cost me time and money at the end of my 15 hour day I had to go to another store to retrieve parts. #autozone

Az tried to explain commercial accounts don’t just close for the day—it’s a 24-hour type of service. The employee immediately escalated the situation by calling the police for creating a “disturbance,” despite being calm and cordial.

While Az tries to understand what the problem is, the employee ignores him and gives the police his description. The AutoZone employee says, “He’s just refusing to leave the store. I’ve asked him time and time again he started cussing at me. I told him I refused his service and he won’t leave.” She then tells police she’s the manager at the store.

A second part of Az’s video reveals an argument between him and the manager. Once again, Az explains he’s a “paying customer” and the commercial’s open 24 hours. This is when the manager reveals the true problem: “I’m not doing commercial 30 minutes to closing,” which sounds an awful lot like someone not wanting to do their job.

After more back-and-forth arguing, Az tells her, “I’ve got plenty of time tonight” and tells her he’ll wait to speak with her manager and police. It is unknown what happened after this or if he received his parts.

People online back up Az, stating the commercial never closes at AutoZone

The pain point of Az’s experience at AutoZone was the use of a commercial account so late in the day. Several commenters backed up Az, saying the use of a commercial account is indeed available 24 hours a day. For this, many called for her to be fired, including one commenter who sent it to her sister, who is a DM for AutoZone, to “escalate” the experience. Az commented, saying he did the same.

After responding to a commenter with a video, a viewer stated as much. “COMMERCIAL NEVER CLOSES. There just are no more deliveries after 6 pm.” In the thread, a second ‘AutoZoner’ confirmed this, also stating, “…grey shirt commercial never closes.”

One commenter was horrified by the employee’s behavior and called her out for lying to the police. “Meanwhile he was not causing a disturbance so she lies to the police she could have got that man killed,” they wrote.

So either the AutoZone employee didn’t want to do her job, or she was ignorant of protocol.
