These recent Assassin’s Creed games have been very, very large. Both Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey have had hundreds of hours worth of content to sink your teeth and hidden blade into, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has continued that trend, and they’re not stopping yet. Valhalla’s patch 1.3.0 is set to drop tomorrow, and in it, we got the release date of its second big expansion DLC. The Siege of Paris expansion will launch on consoles and PC on August 12.
The first big expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, titled Wrath of the Druids, sent protagonist Eivor to the lands of Ireland, as they investigated a druidic cult. In our review of that expansion, we weren’t too fond of it, saying that “aside from a few new armor sets and weapons, nothing truly stands out to make Wrath of the Druids a worthwhile playthrough.”
Perhaps The Siege of Paris expansion will be different. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC will reintroduce “black-box”-style missions, which first made their appearance in Assassin’s Creed Unity, and were later reused in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. These were the type of missions where you were given a target or objective to achieve and you were given free reign to complete it. The first one of these in Unity was one of my favorite experiences in that game – it was even used in pre-release demos to showcase the potential of then-next-gen Assassin’s Creed (even if that game went a different path upon release).
Another piece of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC, Discovery Mode, made popular in the previous two games in the franchise, allows players to learn about that time period by wandering around and listening to narrated info dumps about various aspects of life in Viking times. It will also be releasing in the near future.
What do you think about the release date for the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: The Siege of Paris expansion? Have you been burnt out by the sheer size of the game yet? Did you make it through Wrath of the Druids? So many questions! Leave a comment below with your thoughts.
