After the way Avengers: Infinity War ended, every extra day we have to wait to see where the story will go next is a day too long. We may be in luck: IMAX released a schedule of seventeen films releasing to their theaters in 2019, and Avengers 4: The IMAX Experience is, of course, one of the films listed. The interesting tidbit is when it is scheduled to release: April 2019.
Up until this point, the Avengers 4 has been scheduled to release May 3, 2019.
Generally, MCU movies release a week earlier in some territories outside the United States, most notably in western Europe. However, with some of their films (like Avengers: Infinity War), the movie is released on the same date worldwide. This makes it a bit more of an event, and also helps to prevent spoilers. Therefore, this altered IMAX release date could be a simple mistake or mix-up due to the way Marvel traditionally utilizes a staggered release. The film is scheduled to release in France, Germany, and the UK in late April. It could also indicate that Marvel is moving the release date up in the United States so it once again has a uniform worldwide release.
This would be a significant move because of the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Avengers: Infinity War. There is a lot of speculation about where Marvel films can go from here, and the hype machine is in full force. A uniform, worldwide release date for Avengers 4 (End Game?) would mean a great deal to people trying to avoid spoilers for the film, and would probably make the film’s release one of the biggest cinematic events in decades.
We will have more information on Avengers 4 as it becomes available. With so much about the MCU up in the air at this point, there will certainly be plenty of things to talk about.
