Marvel has unveiled a new Avengers trailer for Jed MacKay and C.F. Villa’s upcoming series. Arriving next month, the trailer for the series shows a brand-new lineup for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Led by Captain Marvel, this new team includes Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, and Vision. Together, this new team is seen facing off against the colossal Terminus.
New Avengers Means New (And Old) Threats!
Amid never-before-seen artwork, the trailer focuses on an epic battle between the Avengers and Terminus. The enemy is one on a massive scale in terms of size who can easily swat away the heroes like bugs. Unfortunately, Terminus is only the beginning of the Avengers’ problems as they deal with the Tribulation Events.
The Tribulation Events have followed MacKay and Villa’s new series since its announcement. It is a series of large-scale disasters that bring chaos to the Marvel Universe. These “events” will set the Avengers against some of their toughest foes, like Terminus and the recently revealed Ashen Combine. It is hard to tell what other horrors await this new lineup. They will surely be pushed to their limits.
What To Expect From MacKay and Villa
Speaking to Polygon, MacKay shared his reasons for putting Captain Marvel in the lead of this new team; “it is a logical progression for the character…applying the challenges of leading a team…to a character with the sensibilities of a brash fighter pilot has been a lot of fun.”
In another interview, MacKay discussed what creating this new era of Avengers has been like. Working with a group that is on a larger scale than some of Marvel’s other heroes has been an adjustment for the writer; “Going [in], I’ve been restructuring how I look at a comic book – the stakes are higher, the threats are bigger, and the heroes are Earth’s Mightiest.”
Avengers #1 is out on May 17.
