Rapper Azealia Banks must have missed the memo for how to properly address Queen Bey, but the internet is dishing out karma on behalf of one of history’s biggest talents.
Fans have gotten a taste of Beyoncé’s upcoming album Act II: Cowboy Carter with her singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.” But not everyone is smitten with her return to country music, despite her explicitly stating that Cowboy Carter “ain’t a country album.”
Banks’ Rant Left Out No Details
Harlem-raised rapper Azealia Banks took to social media to completely eviscerate Cowboy Carter in an audio recording.
“Wow we didn’t even try to put even a little effort into a more artistic title? Sis I live for whiteyounce Donatella Bianca Bardot DOWN, but I’m kind of ashamed at how you switch from baobab trees and ‘Black Parade’ to this literal pick me stuff… you’re always sharing your platform with white women who are so jealous of you but have such a long history of sabotaging other Black women’s careers.”
And apparently, Banks has a considerable amount of time on her hands, since she took the liberty of breaking down each and every minuscule problem she could find with Beyoncé’s bold return to country.
“There was so much pertinent cultural commentary to be made here. I don’t get why you have to be in white woman cosplay to make – (what’s really folk/bluegrass/adult contemporary) facsimile ‘country’ music…. There could have been a humor to it which would bestow upon you even a smidgen of personality to make you an interesting person again… but you’re reinforcing the false rhetoric that country music is a post civil war white art form.”
Banks didn’t miss a single beat in her rant, but the whole ordeal has caused a rift between the BeyHive and the “Kunt Brigade.” Maybe if Beyoncé called the album “Act II: Little Bey on the Prairie,” we wouldn’t be in this mess right now. Could a simple adjustment have spared us from Banks’ online annihilation of the album?
Beyoncé could always write up a quick dig at Banks to sneak in to the album as an exclusive track, but it might be a little late for that, considering Cowboy Carter releases March 29.
The BeyHive Flocked To Defend Their Queen
On Thursday, Banks uploaded an image to her Instagram of herself in full cowboy attire, complete with a revolver and a horse. She simply captioned the post with “The OG” and her sweet scent must have attracted the BeyHive because they went straight for the jugular.
“And you still ain’t @beyonce and you hate it soooooooooooo bad that you are not her…. Secretly envious of her and it’s obvious,” one wrote.
“Are you done stroking your own ego or are you going to continue until Bey drops, you listen to the album and make another long ass essay where you drown her in compliments? This is getting boring,” another said.
