Whether you’ve followed the updates from Larian Studios regarding Baldur’s Gate 3 or not, you might know the game has companions. This eclectic group of characters will follow you throughout your adventures and bring their stories to the fray. You can romance, abandon, or kill them if you want. However, we recommend keeping most of them around for a good party composition. Today, we bring a guide to tell you about the best companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 regarding gameplay and story.
Best BG3 Companions for Gameplay
We’ll analyze the gameplay part of the best companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 first. Before we begin, though, we want to make clear that this is our choice, and everyone can pick different characters to add to their party. However, these are the ones we enjoyed the most during the game’s first hours.
Gale the Wizard
Gale is a fantastic character to have around, regardless of his attitude. While he isn’t as deceitful as Astarion, Gale has many secrets that could jeopardize the party. However, in terms of gameplay, this guy is fantastic. As a Wizard, he has many spells that can wreak havoc in combat. Plus, certain spells, such as lockpicking, are useful outside fights. While you must rest to use them again, he’s a perfect addition to any team.
Halsin the Druid
Many people already know Halsin online due to certain scenes shown at the last Panel from Hell showcase. Yet, beyond the romance part, we’ll talk about why he’s one of the best companions of Baldur’s Gate 3 regarding gameplay. As a Druid, this guy can shapeshift and reach places other characters can’t. While not the most powerful, the spell list of Druids has some fantastic spells to keep enemies at bay. If you want a versatile character for your party, you can’t go wrong with Halsin.
Best BG3 Companions for Story
Now, let’s talk about our best companions in the story of Baldur’s Gate 3. The fact that they are on this list doesn’t mean they are bad at combat; it just means we love their stories so far.
Shadowheart the Cleric
Shadowheart is one of the first companions you’ll meet on your journey; she is there to stay. She has one of the most mysterious pasts of the bunch, and her artifact will help in certain situations. She’s devoted to her Goddess, but there’s more than meets the eye for this mysterious Elf.
Wyll the Warlock
Wyll is a fantastic character that made a deal with a devil that went awry, or rather like the devil expected. He’s known as the Blade of Frontiers, and his fame runs across Baldur’s Gate. However, there are more things that this man doesn’t want to tell yet, and discovering why he made a pact with the devil is something we can’t wait to find out.
These are, for us, the best companions for gameplay and story in Baldur’s Gate 3. While some of them have their class, you can change that whenever you can. However, remember that the game will recognize them as their original class. Still, it is an excellent option to min-max some aspects of the game.
