One of the most mysterious characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Shadowheart, the worshipper of Shar, who lost her memories and was sent on a difficult mission. While this is everything you know at first, her story unfolds throughout the game’s acts. It goes from something simple to a huge conspiracy affecting this character’s life. So, if you want to help Shadowheart fulfill her mission or recover her past, we have prepared a guide for the complete ‘Daughter of Darkness’ quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 to lead you through the mission across the game’s chapters.
How To Complete Daughter of Darkness in Baldur’s Gate 3
Daughter of Darkness is one of the first companion quests you’ll get as soon as you recruit Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3. In this guide, we’ll break down the quest in every act so you know what happens and what to do to obtain different outcomes. So, without further ado, let’s begin with the first act.
Daughter of Darkness: Act 1
The first part of Shadowheart’s quest is quite simple and doesn’t shine until the second chapter. During Act 1, you’ll get to know a bit of her past, her fears, her mission, and other things, depending on how much she opens up to you. Here are the things you’ll learn and where you’ll learn them:
- Head to the Owlbear Cave and open the Gilded Chest to learn she worships Shar.
- Wait for a mysterious voice to contact you, and Shadowheart’s artifact will protect your party.
- Lae’zel might try to kill Shadowheart at your camp; you can prevent this or lose either.
- Head to Grymforge to learn she wants to be a Dark Justiciar.
While there are other small details, these are the most important ones to see where the story goes. If you want to continue her story, keep her around you while exploring the Shadow-cursed Lands.
Daughter of Darkness: Act 2
The next and biggest part of Daughter of Darkness in Baldur’s Gate 3 continues in Act 2, and Shadowheart is practically the protagonist of this chapter. These are the key points of her story in this chapter:
- When you enter the Shadow-cursed Lands, you’ll learn she resists the Shadow Curse.
- Head to the Mausoleum and enter the Gauntlet of Shar. We have an extensive guide to show you how to complete it.
- Finish all trials and find Nightsong.
- If Shadowheart kills Nightsong, she’ll become fully devoted to Shar and won’t be romanceable.
- Saving Nightsong will change Shadowheart’s look, make romanceable again, and give her a new objective.
These are the most important things to do while in the second act of the game. While you can finish most of the quest here, we recommend you save Nightsong to help Shadowheart recover something precious to her in the final act of the game,
Daughter of Darkness: Act 3
The conclusion to Daughe of Darkness in Baldur’s Gate 3 is in Act 3 in the Lower City area of Baldur’s Gate. To continue and complete Shadowheart’s quest, you must do the following:
- Reach the House of Grief.
- Enter the Cloister.
- If you kill Nightsong, Shadowheart will become the leader of Shar’s church and lead Shar’s army in the final battle.
- If you save Nightsong, Shadowheart will have the option to confront the Mother Superior, ending the church of Shar.
- Alternatively, you can hand Shadowheart over to the Mother Superior.
- If you defeated the Mother Superior, head to the Chamber of Loss to find Shadowheart’s parents and discover her true name.
- You can use the Mirror of Loss to get bonuses.
