Minsc is among the 10 companions you can recruit in Baldur’s Gate 3. He will be the last one you can find and recruit, and it won’t be that easy. Minsc is a legendary Baldur’s Gate hero and is also tough to find without following very specific instructions. The events will take place in Act 3, so make sure you’ve reached Baldur’s Gate before you do this task. It won’t take you long to find the Minsc in BG3, especially if you follow our instructions.
BG3: How to Recruit Minsc
Before looking for Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will need to complete a series of quests related to Jaheira. If you kept her alive and recruited her in Act 2, then in Act 3, you will be able to get The High Harper quest from her. Also, in Act 2, you will learn that Minsc is collaborating with the fake Jaheira and working for Absolute. In fact, it’s not his fault, and he only does it because he has a tadpole in his brain that partially controls him.
As you progress through The High Harper quest, you will be able to reach the Counting House, from which point the search for Minsc will begin. After visiting the Counting House, you will learn that Minsc is in the Sewers, where he hides and comes up with further plans with the fake Jaheira. You will need to go there and stop them.
How To Get Into the Sewer and Solve the Sluice Gate Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are actually many options to get into the sewer, but we recommend using the well, which is located in the Lower Town southwest of Bloomridge Park. Once you get inside, you will have many possible paths you can take.
Head to the following coordinates: X:-200, Y:865. Once you arrive at this location, you will be able to find the Abandoned Cistern, and to move on, you will need to solve a simple puzzle with valves. It’s not hard to do, especially since there’s a hint next to the temperature gauge that says the following:
“You probably want to open the Sluice Gate so you can get into the Cistern and musk it out. To do that you need to manipulate the valves to get the water level and heart level to their optimum levels at the same time. Don`t get scalded.”
As you might have guessed, you’ll need to play around with the levers to adjust the water level and temperature, and here’s how to do it:
- Choose one character from the team who will perform all actions with the valves. This is important because if the whole team is standing near the mechanism, then in case of failure, everyone will take significant damage.
- Interact with the water valve first, and when you do, you will see the indicator light fill up.
- After 4–6 seconds, interact with the lever that controls the temperature.
- Now, you need to wait until both indicators reach the right mark. Done, the puzzle is complete.
Now that you’ve solved the puzzle, the gate will open, and you can proceed to the last step to recruit Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3.
BG3: Save and Recruit Minsc
When you enter the gateway, you will see a fake Jaheira speaking to Minsc. Now, you will face a difficult battle, so we recommend saving the game to be able to try again in case of failure. During the battle, you should first kill all the side enemies, especially the fake Jaheira. Only Minsc should be left, and there is one important thing to do. The last hit, before you finish him off, must be done with a non-lethal weapon.
If you do everything right, you will be able to talk to Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3. In the dialog with him, you must convince him that you did not kill Jaheira and that it was just a fake. He will believe you, but at one moment, Minsc will start running in an unknown direction, and you need to follow him. Eventually, when the man stops, you will understand that he is looking for Boo, the hamster. After he finds his hamster, you can talk to him again and recruit him to your team.
