This vampire spawn is cool and all, but should you let Astarion drink your blood in Baldur’s Gate 3? When a white exclamation mark appears above a companion in the camp, it is because they need something, and you can approach them and help them out. Never in a million years would we have guessed what they might actually need would be our blood. Jokes on us for recruiting a vampire spawn. In this guide, we discuss the pros and cons of each decision.
Who Is Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3?
As mentioned, Asterion is a Vampire Spawn. One day, you are peacefully sleeping in the camp and see Astarion approaching to drink your blood in Baldur’s Gate 3. When you notice this, he tells you that he’s been forced to feed off of sewer rats by his master Cazador for his entire spawn life. Understandably, Astarion thinks rats are disgusting, and feeding off of these rodents does not give him any power.
Asterion tries to convince you to let him drink your blood. He promises that if he can feed on other creatures, his abilities will improve, and he’ll be stronger on the battlefield.
Should You Let Astarion Drink Your Blood in Baldur’s Gate 3?
If you decide to let Astarion drink your blood, he’ll proceed happily, earning you his approval. Once he has finished feeding off you, these will be the consequences:
Your main character gets the Bloodless status ailment. This state gives you:
- -1 in Attack Rolls
- -1 in Saving Throws
- -1 in Ability Checks
Astarion will get the Happy status effect on the next day, which gives him the following:
- +1 in Attack Rolls
- +1 in Saving Throws
- +1 in Ability Checks
The status of both will appear the day after Astarion bites you and will last one day until the next long rest. Astarion also unlocks the Vampire Bite ability in Baldur’s Gate 3, which allows him to suck the blood out of living creatures during battle.

After this, he will be able to feed on other beings, although you can give him your blood in Baldur’s Gate 3 again if you wish. This option gives us more playability since it has no severe consequences, and you increase his approval rating.
On the other hand, if you decide not to let Astarion bite you, his approval of you may decrease. And it wouldn’t be a good thing to have someone on your team against you, would it?
