Batman v Superman fans get a final bite of that “Synder Cut” they’ve been hungry for as the director does commentary for the heavily debated film.
Fans were meant to gather in Detroit on March 28th to celebrate the film’s fourth anniversary. But, the coronavirus moved that screening to Twitch, where Synder announced that he plans to do live commentary. Sunday, March 29th will see the director record commentary as he was never able to for the video release.
Batman v Superman eventually got Ultimate Edition later, which included Synder’s original vision of the movie. A Synder Cut is viewed like it’ll make the movie great and fix its flaws. The name is a running joke now among film fans that whenever a bad movie releases that you have to wait for the Synder cut to see the good version.
BvS released to poor critical reception and failed to meet box office expectations. It grossed $873.6 million on roughly a $300 million budget, but when two of DC’s biggest heroes couldn’t break a billion, led the studio to rethink some things.
The change-up in strategy led to Warner Bros. getting two billion-dollar films with Wonder Woman and the guy that talks to fish. Yeah, even Aquaman made more money than the poster boys for the brand. You think 2020 is wild, go tell someone in 2010 that this would happen and they might explode.
Snyder Cut or Bust
After the death of his daughter, the director was forced to exit his next project Justice League and The Avengers director Joss Whedon took over. Fans, as well as the film’s actors, haven’t stopped tweeting for Synder’s cut since the 2017 release.
Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot tweeted “#ReleaseTheSynderCut” along with her costar Ben Affleck who plays Batman in Justice League. The reported differences in Whedon’s version appear to be downsized storylines for Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher and almost 80 new script pages which added scenes for Gadot and Diane Lane.
Streamers can expect Synder to give details on what changed during the movie’s production and more. While this isn’t watching Synder’s version Justice League, it does complete the missing piece of Batman v Superman. The stream watch party starts at 8 am PDT.
