Bayonetta has joined the list of video game franchises that are going long and somewhat strong. Now, the iconic super-witch video game has reached its 15th anniversary since Bayonetta 1‘s international release in 2010. To celebrate that, developer studio PlatinumGames has announced something that might excite some longtime Bayonetta fans.

PlatinumGames took to X/Twitter recently and posted about Bayonetta‘s 15th year. PlatinumGames also plans to turn 2025 into a year of celebration for Bayonetta, whatever that means– details have been rather vague despite the festive tweet. Speaking of which, here’s what PlatinumGames announced:

It’s Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary Year!💋💄

The bigger news is that the developer studio has something in store for Bayonetta and it just so happens that the 15th Anniversary is the perfect opportune moment to surprise some fans. Sadly, PlatinumGames has also been vague about the “few things in store.”

Some fans assume that it’s going to be some kind of remaster for the Bayonetta trilogy or a special release for certain platforms that missed out on the action. The first Bayonetta game was available to a wide variety of consoles and even the PC. However, the 2nd and 3rd games had limited releases to the Nintendo Switch and Wii U, a move which practically tore the fanbase asunder.

Some gamers– particularly those on the PC, were able to circumvent the lack of a PC port for Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3 using Switch emulators. However, Nintendo’s recent aggression towards piracy has made ‘unofficial distribution’ for Bayonetta sequels either troublesome or legally dangerous.

As for PlatinumGames, there has been some troubling news late in 2024 that the high-level and major developers in the studio have already left. Sources cite the long period of failed projects for the developers’ departure, some of them have worked on Bayonetta.
