Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have been close friends for decades. The duo shot to fame together when they wrote the film Good Will Hunting and later earned Oscars for the movie. Now, decades later, the pair may not be as close as they once were. So much has happened in both of the men’s lives and while they’ll always have the childhood bond that brought them together, their friendship has seemingly changed as of late.
According to Radar Online, Matt Damon has recently struck up a close friendship with retired soccer star, David Beckham. The pair reportedly hit it off quickly after appearing together in a beer commercial for the Super Bowl. In the ad, Damon and Beckham played long-lost twin brothers. However, the real-life camaraderie is what has Ben Affleck seething with jealousy.
“Matt and David get along well. They have lots in common besides a beer commercial and have been hanging out a lot from what Ben hears. It’s a real kick in the gut to see these two guys palsing it up,” an insider said of Affleck’s reaction to the friendship between Damon and Beckham.
Ben Affleck Jealous of Matt Damon’s New Bromance With David Beckham

However, not asking Affleck to appear in the commercial wasn’t the issue. “As Ben’s obviously a recovering alcoholic, it wouldn’t be appropriate to have asked him to do a beer commercial.”
Over the past year, Affleck has been through the wringer. He’s been a tabloid staple due to his relationship with Jennifer Lopez. Sadly, when the two filed for divorce in August 2024, things went from bad to worse. The source claims that Ben could really use Matt’s friendship at the moment. However, he’s been busy living it up with other friends like David.
“At a time when Ben needs his friend most, here is Matt getting all palsy with Becks. Matt hasn’t had as much time for Ben lately and has been doing his own thing socially,” the informant added.
Unfortunately for Affleck, he has the feeling that Damon could be “slipping away” from him. The pair have so much history together that it would be devastating to lose their friendship. Sadly, the prospect of losing Matt to a new friend reportedly has Ben feeling very “gloomy.”
One thing that doesn’t have Ben Affleck feeling gloomy is his relationship with ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. As previously reported, the exes were spotted smiling and having a blast together as they played paintball with their son, Samuel, over the weekend.
It seems that even if Ben Affleck doesn’t have Matt Damon to lean on as a friend during this challenging time in his life. Fortunately, he can always count on Jennifer Garner to be there for him.
