Another notable name has joined the cast of Marvel’s upcoming movie about ‘sorcerer supreme’ Doctor Strange; Benedict Wong.
Benedict Wong, whose most notable recent role was Jet Propulsion Laboratory director Bruce Ng in Ridley Scott’s movie adaption of the novel, The Martian, will be appearing alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange.
He will be playing the role of, oddly enough, Wong, Doctor Strange’s loyal assistant.
Wong (the character) has been Doctor Strange’s loyal assistant for a long time; first debuting in Marvel’s pages in the 1960s. A descendant of a Chinese monk who studied the occult, Wong is, predictably, skilled in martial arts as well as a knowledgeable healer. He assists Strange in all manner of tasks, but his most important role is is protecting his body when the good doctor is astrally projecting himself into other dimensions.
Wong (Benedict Wong, the actor) is a British actor whose other appearances (aside from The Martian) include Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, BBC comedy The Wrong Mans and Netflix’s Marco Polo. Aside from Cumberbatch, Benedict will also be appearing alongside Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen in Doctor Strange’s first live action movie.
The movie will be amongst ‘Marvel’s phase 3’ movies and is set to hit cinemas on November 4th.
