Starfield has a variety of traits that give your character some unique advantages or flavor when starting out. It’s important to ensure that you start out strong as a beginner or the game could be difficult. There are several traits related to factions while others can give you unique statuses. While all traits do have their advantages, some starting traits are better than others. You can’t switch your traits out, though you can get rid of some of them if they are inconvenient. Here are the best Starfield starting traits to get first, along with the reasoning behind their selection. There will be more than three recommended; choose the ones you like based on your build.

Best Starfield Starting Traits

These traits have unique effects that are hard to replicate but grant great benefits from the start. You can’t go wrong with these traits but you must still build around them to be effective. Using them improperly will make them just as useless as the worst traits.

Extrovert

Extrovert reduces your oxygen consumption when traveling with human companions. That’s great for people who use oxygen-heavy builds that involve sprinting. It also lets you jump around more often, great for boost pack users who move around frequently. Since you aren’t likely to explore by yourself, the downside won’t affect you much. Even if you do lose your companion or accidentally send them away, it’s not hard to find a replacement. Getting a companion like Sarah Morgan early on isn’t hard, allowing you to take advantage of this after the tutorial.

Hero Worshipped

Hero Worshipped gives you a companion very early in your travels. After arriving at New Atlantic and doing a few good deeds, someone will approach you. This is your Adoring Fan who will join you as a companion without any other requirements. Unlike some companions that require quests or money, the Adoring Fan comes in just by being a nice person. That’s an extra crew member you can leave on your ship, send to an outpost, or take into combat.

Taskmaster

Taskmaster can give you a full ship heal if you have crew trained in your ship’s maintenance. This may take some searching because not all companions are compatible with every ship. But once you have the right companions with you, this makes space fights significantly easier to recover from.

Introvert

The opposite of Extrovert, great for players who are doing solo builds or are intent on the shadier activities in Starfield. If you travel alone, it’s definitely worth taking over Extrovert since you get less oxygen consumption just by being alone. You will require companions for some parts of the story and side quests, but those won’t last forever. If possible, discourage taking on companions and Introvert can deliver great results.

These Are The Traits To Get First in Starfield

While you can make an argument for the other traits, these traits are definitely the best to start with. Bethesda encourages experimentation and it’s good to combine these traits with others. Some builds will use a different playstyle and that’s alright. The key is to think about what kind of character you want to create, and what traits support those efforts. Maybe Hero Worshipped isn’t the perfect combination with Introvert. But it goes great with Extrovert since you always have a companion. Taskmaster works great with Introvert since you only need crew members on your ship to work.

Try these traits out and get a head start on the competition. Maybe you want to try something else later, but these traits will help you experience the best that Starfield has to offer. Once you get more experience and understand how different traits can work, switch them out later. Criminal builds will enjoy traits such as Wanted as an example. But if you want a good experience without much inconvenience, the above traits are some of the best.
