World War 1, also known as The Great War, is a dark but intriguing period to look back on 100 years later. It was a time of much desperation between the two powers, losing soldier after soldier in the endless fight for control. Their sacrifices to achieve peace are not in vain, as the world would not be the same today without them. Many have adapted the experience into books, TV, and films, but few have ventured into video games. That’s where Beyond the Wire comes into play. This tactical first-person shooter has been in development for some time and is now ready to put players into the gritty, realistic atmosphere of World War 1. Beyond the Wire enters Steam Early Access on October 21, available for $34.99. You can check out the grim but beautiful early access trailer below.
What is Beyond the Wire?
Beyond the Wire puts you into 100 player battles, filled with chaos and strategy in all forms. The Western Front gets displayed in an unrivaled level of detail, featuring all the dark and intense moments that soldiers went through. From the chaos in large, open fields to the close-quarters fear of trench battles, everything feels as intense as it does realistic. You’ll need to work with your squadmates, deriving strategies and tactics if you are to come out on top. How you take out a mounted gun, an assaulting force, or an enemy at the other end of the trench is up to you. Beyond the Wire gives you a lot of freedom, while showing you the true horrors of war.
Will Stahl, CEO at publisher Offworld Industries, had this to say:
Having worked closely with everyone at Redstone and seen the true craftsmanship that has gone into building the game, I am extremely excited about its launch into Early Access and believe they are creating a truly unique WWI team-based FPS that will redefine the genre. From there, we’re confident the game will continue to grow through community feedback and continuous updates so that the player experience will be something that stands tall alongside the very best the genre has to offer”
