On Saturday, DC Fandome had a panel regarding Black Adam and they dropped some very interesting news. Black Adam is set to feature the JSA or Justice Society of America, for those unfamiliar with the acronym, as Adam’s foes.
The Justice Society of America (JSA), not to be confused with the Justice League of America (JLA), is a band of superheroes that hail from comics in the ’40s. The primary members were the Flash, Spectre, Green Lantern, Doctor Fate, Hour-Man, Atom, and Hawkman. Like most superhero coalitions the JSA has had a myriad of members that have come and gone, but the group has maintained popularity among comic fans.

The JSA in the Black Adam film is set to feature a few key members from the core group, most notably Doctor Fate and Hawkman. Per the panel, Atom Smasher and Cyclone will be revealed as recruits to the JSA, who were recruited by Hawkman and Doctor Fate. Doctor Fate is an excellent choice for a film like Black Adam, given his abilities as a sorcerer and Adam’s arcane origins. Hawkman is another key role due to his Thanagarian strength and magical mace. Atom Smasher is a hero who can increase his size and Cyclone has a mastery of wind.
These choices for JSA members give DC a whole new avenue to explore. After all, they’ve barely scratched the surface of the magical heroes, who are central to DC comics. Doctor Fate is a pretty big step into a whole new realm for DC. Given the abilities of the other known JSA members and Adam’s powers, arcane and otherwise, the Black Adam film is shaping up to be a truly new and exciting territory for DC.
The film is slated to be released in December of 2020 and with this news, fans are undoubtedly eagerly awaiting any new details about this new direction for DC and Black Adam.
