In the latest Call of Duty installment, Black Ops 3, the player will be able to play through the campaign in any order they wish. That’s right, on day one of launch you’ll be able to hop on and play the last level just like that. In a recent interview Jason Blundell, who is the campaign manager for Black Ops 3, talked about the reasoning and concerns for Treyarch making this decision. Ultimately it was due to be able to give the players more choice. “It gives them the flexibility to consume the content how they want. Consumers and game players, in general, are far more mature these days. There are so many things vying for our interests today. It’s about, how do they want to consume it? Maybe they put it down on level two, and then they’re in work the next day, and some guy says, ‘dude, you’ve got to check out level four!’ And he’s like, ‘okay, I’ll have a quick look.’ That’s totally fine. I think it’s their choice.”

With regards to concerns about spoilers in the Black Ops 3 story, Blundell said he wasn’t concerned. He gave a comparison regarding the popular Netflix series “House of Cards.” “If you see the end you’ll say, I need to understand this more. When the Netflix original House of Cards released with all the episodes, does everyone just jump to the end and go and play the last episode? Sure you can. But it’s about the journey, though, right?” Blundell does believe players will still want to play through the entire campaign to see how the whole story plays out. He also acknowledges players will no doubt post videos of the end of the campaign online and states, “It’s like when Breaking Bad comes out, you’ve got to go Twitter and internet blackout.”
