Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is just a few weeks away, releasing on Playstation 4, XBox One, and PC (with a pared-down version releasing on Playstation 3 and XBox 360) on November 6th. On a recent live stream, developer Treyarch announced a new mode coming in Black Ops 3 that looks to give players a chance to practice their movement abilities. The mode is called Free Run, and it looks to be inspired by games such a Mirror’s Edge. The mode consists of different maps that will test your sliding, double-jumping, and wall-running abilities in a time trial setting. Occasionally, the player will pick up different guns and be tasked with shooting down targets as they bounce between surfaces. Check out some of Free Run mode in action here (skip to around the 9:00 mark to see Free Run mode):

Black Ops 3 looks like it is a good combination of trying to mix up the formula a bit while also sticking to the tried and true hallmarks that the series is known for. Free Run mode looks like it could make for some impressive speed runs if that is something the Call of Duty audience can pull themselves away from deathmatching for. A few other features that have been announced in the last few weeks include the campaign missions all being unlocked and available to play in any order as well as a difficulty mode entitled “Realistic,” which appears to be more difficult than the usually toughest “Veteran” difficulty.
While the Call of Duty series is almost universally guaranteed to rake in serious money, some of the new features coming in Black Ops 3 look like they could help make this one of the best Call of Duty titles in recent memory. Even if it is not, at least it has Jeff Goldblum in its Zombies mode.
Excited for Black Ops 3? Or are other shooters like Star Wars Battlefront and Halo 5 going to be taking up your FPS time? How many Jeff Goldblum impressions will you do as you play Zombies? Let us, uh, know in the comments below.
