With a lack of blockbuster competition, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever continues to stay strong and dominate the weekend box office. Now, in its fifth week of release, the new Black Panther movie managed to not only hold on to its number one spot but also raked in another $11,100,000. This figure brings Black Panther’s box office to over $400,000,000.
Though not on track to earn as much as the first Black Panther movie, the new film is critically and commercially successful. However, the new Black Panther movie is about to face its first dose of real competition as Avatar: The Way Of Water hits theaters next week. As a result, Black Panther will likely lose its number one spot at next week’s box office.
The new Black Panther movie is joined by only one other Disney movie in the top 5, as Strange World remains at number three with over $3 million for the weekend, bringing its box office total to over $30,000,000, which is not successful by Disney standards.
Also in the top 5 is Violent Night from Universal Pictures. The film remained at number 2 in its second week and now has a total of $26,694,000. The Menu came in at number 4, followed by Devotion. Notably absent is Black Adam, which has been outside the top 5 for two weeks now.
The New ‘Black Panther’ Film Is An Oscars Hopeful
Though the number of major blockbuster films getting Oscar nominations is pretty small, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever seems to be in the running. Particularly for Angela Bassett, as the actress has received considerable buzz since the new Black Panther film premiered. If nominated, she would compete in the Best Supporting Actress category.
The holiday season has been pretty quiet on the blockbuster movie front, but we’re glad Black Panther continues to dominate, at least until the new Avatar movie comes out next week.
