In one of the newest cinematic trailers released for Mass Effect: Andromeda, we got more in-depth details about the story, as well as the impending drama that will unfold in the Andromeda galaxy come March. The trailer shows the members of ship Tempest getting closer to landing on the new planet Habitat 7- their only chance for safety and for giving humanity a new home. In the midst of being reminded that there are 20,000 souls aboard Ark Hyperion that are “adrift at sea”, we also get a quick glimpse of salarian Kallo Jath piloting starship Tempest before things take a turn for the worst and we are introduced to the villain of Andromeda.

The new trailer introduces us to Andromeda’s villain, Kett Archon

In an attempt to get closer to the planet, Pathfinder Ryder and his team are ambushed by Kett Archon. This new and dangerous enemy wastes no time threatening Ryder and the rest of the team of Ark Hyperion, saying “surrender of burn.” It’s possible the idea of humans trying to colonize Habitat 7 doesn’t sit well with him.

That doesn’t stop Ryder. As the explorers gear up to head from this ship, Ryder admits that they’ve been “outplayed”- the Archon is a master of his game. He then promises that “we’re about to change the rules” as we get a good look at the members of the group- Peebee, Liam Kosta, Ryder, Lt. Harper, and a Korgan named Drack. What follows is a montage of high-action sequences that give us a glimpse into what to expect during combat in the game.

In a trailer released before this, we got a comprehensive look at the leading members of the human Pathfinder crew of Ark Hyperion, including Alec Ryder, who is the father of the series’ new protagonists, Scott and Sarah Ryder. Alec is the Pathfinder on Ark Hyperion, whose pioneer service history “speaks for itself”. He’s a skilled soldier with N7 ranking, as well as a talented scientist.

Other members of the team include Liam, who was a security specialist and has expertise in crisis response. We also have Lieutenant Cora Harper on board, who is also narrating this trailer. She is the team’s second-in-command and is the operations specialist in charge of handling ground missions. She also spends four years serving alongside Asari commandos. Lt. Harper’s past is still fairly vague, though, and fans quickly picked up that she shares a surname with Jack Harper (The Illusive Man) from the original games and the leader of Cerberus. While her connection to the trilogy hasn’t been confirmed, it’s still best not to rule anything out.

2017 is a milestone year for the Mass Effect franchise, as the first game was released ten years this November. Mass Effect: Andromeda is built on EA’s Frostbite 3 engine, similar to titles like Battlefield 1 and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst.

Andromeda will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 21. EA has also announced that Andromeda will be available for EA/Origin Access members ahead of the release date.
