If you were to ask the Pokemon Company what their most marketable Pokemon is, odds are they’ll tell you Pikachu, Eevee, or Charizard. Pikachu has the benefit of being the mascot of the anime series, Eevee is cute and fluffy (enough said), and Charizard has been famous ever since it appeared on the box art for Pokemon Red. Pokemon merchandise customers are likely already aware that Build-A-Bear offers three different versions of Pikachu and Eevee and its Eeveelutions, but there’s been no Charizard plush available at Build-A-Bear until now, and they’re making up for lost time with a giant plush.

Build-A-Bear and Pokemon have been collaborating for nearly a decade, with Pikachu being the first plush available in 2015. Over the years, Build-A-Bear has released over 25 plush pocket monsters, available for customers to select, stuff, dress, and accessorize with a collection of themed bear clothes. The Pokemon collection includes a few duplicates of Pikachu and Eevee and it’s evolutions, but also Teddiursa, Pichu, Growlithe, and Alolan Vulpix, among others. The collection does include a Charmander but it had no Charizard until Pokemon revealed a giant plush today.

Intent on making history with the first Pokemon plush of 2024, Pokemon and Build-A-Bear have announced a giant, 22-inch tall Charizard Plush. Giant Charizard is available for $115 through Build-A-Bear’s online store, and while that price tag is a good deal cheaper than the average plush – usually around $30 – the giant Charizard does come in a bundle with an aviator’s cap and a red scarf, perfect for making your Charizard into a flying ace.

Now that Build-A-Bear has broken ground in the field of giant Pokemon, it seems like the next logical step would be to release a giant Ivysaur or Blastoise, which would complete the lineup of Gen 1 starter evolutions. Nothing has been confirmed, of course, but we’re on the edge of our seats to see what huggable, marketable plush Pokemon and Build-A-Bear come up with next.
