While shopping at a Costco in California, a father was approached and harassed by a customer there for entering a women’s restroom in order to help his young daughter. This resulted in shaming from the customer, who had been very upset by the situation.
Posted by the father in question on his personal TikTok account, Liebchenr, Oscar tells the audience, “Don’t let Karens harass you for taking your daughter into the women’s bathroom.” When he exits the bathroom at Costco, a woman confronts him for being a man in the women’s restroom.
The woman walks over to Oscar and tells him, “I have never seen such a thing.” He tells her, “You saw it right there. And now you’re informed and you’re educated.” He tells the woman he’s legally allowed to take his daughter into a woman’s bathroom. Oscar goes on to say, “I’m not in there looking at you.”
Eventually, a Costco manager approaches them to find out what’s going on. Oscar tells them the customer is “harassing” him for using the women’s bathroom. As the customer is asking the manager if that’s permitted, Oscar’s young daughter speaks up. She shouts, “I can’t go in myself yet!” The manager explains to the woman it isn’t an issue, “unless he’s peeking through the stalls,” which he wasn’t.
Oscar even makes it known he announced himself as a “girl dad” when he walked in. The woman berates him with a persistent, “Next time, please do it louder.” You can hear the irritation in Oscar’s voice as he tells the manager he’s tired of these things happening. He tells her, “I’m not going to take her into the men’s bathroom.” Oscar thanks the manager for standing up for him and his daughter.
People online react to Oscar’s run-in with a Karen
For the most part, people sided with Oscar in the comments, arguing he did everything right and the customer was just being way too serious about the situation. “Costco manager understood the assignment. Protect your babies.”
Bringing up Oscar’s defense of avoiding the men’s bathroom, a commenter wrote, “Why would anyone WANT a dad to take a LITTLE GIRL into a men’s restroom?!” Not to mention men’s rooms are generally filthy!
Many of the women in the comments defended Oscar as well, one of whom said they’d “hold the door” for them and wish them well. She added, “And go on about MY business.” Oscar responded, saying he has his daughter call too, just to make sure.
Another commenter brought up a good point, saying, “Parents have been doing this for decades but all of a sudden it’s a problem?” Others had an answer, saying it was “culture war nonsense” peddled by “right wing media.”
It’s understandable to be weary of a man in the women’s bathroom. However, when a father takes the necessary precautions, and someone still has a problem, it’s just complaining for the sake of complaining. Given the response to Oscar’s TikTok video, many feel the same way.
