Police dogs might be well-trained in catching culprits but less so in human decency, because, well, they’re not human, and one California homeowner had to experience this the hard way. Reddit user Flea420 was having his garage swept by K9 when it suddenly came to a stop while sniffing about. The reason was that nature was calling, and the cop canine proceeded to relieve itself on the homeowner’s things.
Needless to say, Flea420 was none too pleased and posted security footage of the police K9 doing its business on r/mildlyinfuriating. As to what the dog peed on, OP clarified: “A box full of tools and motorcycle parts. Not really an issue, but that’s why it’s behind the toolbox.” Whatever the case, it’s going to be a hassle and a half getting all that cleaned, especially considering there were multiple tools and pieces that were contaminated.
Commenters Say Police Dogs Are Never As Well Trained As Some Might Think
“These dogs are never as well trained as they claim,” remarked a Redditor, who recalled that they knew of a K9 removed from service after it allegedly attempted to bite another police officer. Another claimed that, during their high school years, police dogs were brought into their classrooms to search for drugs, but then the pair started fighting. “No idea if they even found any drugs,” the commenter concluded.
Besides people criticizing the poor use of “trained” K9s by police, plenty of other Redditors found the scene rather comical. “He was planting evidence,” joked a user. “Marking the areas he’s checked,” chimed in a second. “Cops are all the same, I tells ya…” a third sighed in jest. “He’ll just get a slap on the paw, some paid time off, and sent to the K9 unit in another area.”
Flea420 has yet to mention whether he did anything about the incident, such as a report or complaint to the local PD. Though, the situation was, as one commenter put it, somewhat unavoidable. “It’s funny because it’s not my garage but what can you do?” they argued. “It’s not like the handler can say, ‘ok Max, go check it out and don’t pee or poop’.”
