A TikToker who frequents a California gym had been trying to get her reps in a now-viral video. However, she was suddenly interrupted by another gymgoer who decided to make a fuss about one of the machines. This led to an awkward and unnecessary argument, which the TikToker handled wonderfully.
Posted by TikToker Jenna.fitness, Jenna had been recording herself exercising on one of the workout machines when a woman walked over with the attitude of a Karen and asked, “Excuse me, are you almost done?” Jenna tells her she’s in the middle of her reps and, in fact, had just started.
“I’ve been watching you for 10 minutes,” the woman says. Baffled, Jenna asks, “On this machine?” She knows she hasn’t been using the machine for that long. The woman then tells Jenna, “You kids take forever on this machine.” Jenna tries to explain once more, “I just got on.” She looks blown away by this woman’s attitude and approach.
Jenna then tells the woman it’s going to take her about “five minutes” to finish her rep. But this isn’t good enough for the woman, who tells Jenna, “I don’t have five minutes. Can you just let me on the machine real quick?” She adds, “I just want to use it so I can go home.”
At this point, the pair begins arguing back and forth. The lady tries to convince Jenna she won’t be long—bouncing between “two minutes” and “five minutes.” So it’s okay to make someone else wait five minutes but not herself?
Jenna does try to diffuse the confrontation by offering the gymgoer a fun solution: Why not work out together? After all, if they’re both heading home after their next workout, they can finish their reps at the same time.
Viewers online felt Jenna had been too nice
Thousands of comments were left on Jenna’s TikTok video, many of which insisted she handled the confrontation well but was too nice. Others shared hilarious responses as to how they would’ve dealt with the entitled Karen.
One commenter argued they’d be petty about it, saying, “I would die on that machine and never leave it.” Another commenter responded, saying they’d “take the bolts out” just to clean and grease it in an attempt to waste the woman’s time.
“Responding to her by saying ‘me too’ was actually iconic,” one TikTok user wrote, commenting on Jenna’s response in her video. The lady tried to tell Jenna she was heading home after her next workout. Jenna responded with a “Me too.”
Others ripped on the gymgoer’s choice of clothing, with one commenter asking, “Why is she in the gym in business casual?” This got mixed responses, with some saying they saw weirder outfits at the gym. Others pointed out Jenna herself was even wearing sandals.
With such a large gym, it really seems silly to make a fuss about waiting a couple of minutes for one machine. Either find another one rather than start an argument with a stranger!
