A California man recently ordered a new vanity from Home Depot because he thought he’d receive it quickly. Unfortunately, the delivery date kept getting pushed back. Fed up, he decided to speak with a manager about it. To his surprise, he ended up speaking with an AI ‘employee’ in a bizarre interaction.
Jason (@jasonthechao) ordered a bathroom vanity from Home Depot. It was supposed to arrive on a Monday, and he tried to make some calls to find out where his vanity was when Monday came and went. Customer service told him it would come on Friday. It never arrived. Eventually, the vanity was two weeks late, and he never received his vanity.
Jason called Home Depot and told them he would pick up the vanity, wherever it was, if that made things easier. He was put on the line with an agent, but he was baffled by what he experienced next. According to Jason, “the agent is AI.” He said the agent was way too accommodating and had a “bizarre” accent. Jason asked it some questions related to the area where the AI said it was located, and it couldn’t answer any of them. He knew at this point that he wasn’t talking to a real human.
Annoyed but amused, Jason spoke with the AI to find out where his vanity was. He didn’t get any real solution. However, he was able to obtain contact information from the third-party provider handling his vanity. He called the number, which was owned and operated by Walmart, only to have a conversation with yet another AI agent! Jason says the entire thing was an incredibly “2026” experience. He laughs as he announces to his audience, “I don’t know if my vanity even ever existed!”
The video immediately gained comments and reactions from individuals dealing with the same thing as Jason. As one commenter stated, “Customer service Home Depot associate here. We’re struggling with this a lot right now.” Another commenter urged, “Please tell me you got a refund.” Jason replied that he did, indeed, get a refund for the vanity that never arrived. One commenter quipped, “They probably delivered the virtual vanity to your virtual consciousness that’s stored in the cloud that powers this simulation.” Commenters continue to share their opinions on AI and what they deal with on a daily basis when it comes to this new technology.
