A California man, Ray, is pulled over by Border Patrol after allegedly going 3 MPH over the speed limit. Ray posted the infraction on TikTok, saying he was surprised to be pulled over, as he is a 20-year veteran who just retired. The video has received mixed reactions in the comments, with over 139,000 views and over 6,000 likes.
In the video, Ray tells the officer that he believes, “It’s just a shame that I’ve done 20 years, and you’re pulling me over.” The two have a brief exchange. During it, the officer shares that he was also a vet and served 14 years. When he asks why he was pulled over, the officer tells him, “You were going 68 in a 65; that’s why I pulled you over.”
After Ray is surprised it’s only 3 MPH, the officer says, “That’s still speeding.” However, the officer remains polite during the stop and was likely just doing his job. When Ray says he’s a vet, the officer says, “When I’m pulling up alongside you, how am I supposed to know you’re a veteran just by looking at you?” Ray was also told that if nothing came up, such as warrants, then he was free to go. However, he feels the stop wasn’t justified.
Mixed Reactions Over California Video
Meanwhile, Ray’s video has sparked mixed reactions in the comments, with people taking two different sides. Some believe that the Border Patrol officer had no real reason to pull Ray over. One person says, “68 over 65? Bruh! You serious? He’s profiling you for sure.” Another agrees, “Unlawful stop. Being pulled over solely for speed is outside of Border Patrol’s federal mandate.” A third person says, “Speeding is not an adequate reason for CBP to pull someone over. They are not traffic cops, nor can they enforce traffic laws.”
However, many feel like the officer was just doing his job, and argue, “Military or not, don’t speed.” Another person says, “As a veteran, why do people think cops owe us something just because we served?” One commenter points out, “They do not care if you served in the military or are active military.”
The officer didn’t ticket Ray, and he was able to go on his way after the stop.
