A man in Los Angeles, California, went on a date with a woman who ordered a very expensive meal. After only taking a couple of bites, the woman was full, according to him, so he figured he’d get a to-go box for the leftovers. The man was shocked when she saw his date freak out about it, effectively ending the date on the spot.

Max Birch, who goes by squashwinz, shared his story on TikTok. He usually shares his stories and views about everyday life on the platform, which has earned him a massive following. The date story, however, stood out thanks to its virality: it garnered 5 million views, 578,700 likes, and 21,300 comments.

The California man said in the clip that he took a woman on a date to a nice restaurant in the Los Angeles area. It was their first date, according to him, and he was prepared to spend money to have a nice dinner with “a beautiful girl.”

However, Max said his date took “full advantage” of him, ordering the surf and turf and a side of “caviar specialty.” In total, her entrée cost $220.

“That was more than the entire bill I got and the bottle of wine combined,” he added.

Leftover Meltdown

The food eventually came to the table, and the California couple began eating. However, Max revealed that his date only took “three bites” of the surf and turf and “a scoop” of caviar and then told him she was “full.”

“The whole, entire dish is sitting in front of her, untouched,” he said. “I’m a little bit upset. We could have split this at the very least, right?“

When the waiter eventually came to take the plates, he told him he’d have the leftover food to go and asked for a to-go box. According to him, this derailed the date even further.

“She just looks at me like I just killed somebody,” the California man said. “Like I legitimately just murdered someone at the table next to us.”

Max’s date, appearing to be flabbergasted, asked him if he was planning to eat leftovers. He said he was, and his date said that she was going home. She then refused to be driven home, according to Max, and called an Uber.

“Am I the bad guy here?” he asked his audience.

Shocked Users React

The video sparked multiple reactions.

Some users were shocked that someone would be willing to refuse the leftovers. One user commented, “Don’t care how rich you are. Wasting food while humans starve is icky.” Another one agreed, saying, “People who don’t eat leftovers are weird.”

Other users had issues with how Max’s date ordered a $220 without thinking twice. One commenter wrote, “That’s being wasteful and rude. You dodged a bullet, my dude.” Another one suggested, “This is an appropriate two separate checks situation.”

Nightmare date stories on TikTok are always prone to success, as long as there is a compelling story being told. This was the California man’s case, with the added element of the leftover controversy feeding into the clip’s virality.

In the end, Max was glad this happened. According to him, he “dodged a [expletive] bullet.”
