Being a mom is never easy, especially when your child doesn’t always listen the first time. Unfortunately, when moms struggle to manage their kids in public, they often face harsh judgment from onlookers. That’s exactly what’s happening to one California mother who’s now under fire because of her son’s behavior.
While shopping at Costco with her husband, their young boy climbed on top of some boxes. Instead of stepping in to help, her husband decided to record the situation, pretending he didn’t even know her. At one point, he jokingly asked, “Is that your kid?” Only later in the comments did he admit he was the boy’s father, not just a random shopper filming. Needless to say, the internet wasn’t amused. Rather than sharing the blame, most people directed their criticism squarely at the mom.
In the video of the California mom, you could see the boy crawling on top of the boxes so she wouldn’t catch him. When she started heading to the other side to get near him, he moved away again. This made her turn back to where she first was, only for the kid to do the exact same thing and move away. She kept telling him to get down several times before pointing toward his dad. This is when he finally came toward her. She gave him a little tap on the back before carrying him to the ground. The dad posted another video of the kid crawling on top of boxes again. This time, though, he was actually involved and pulled him by his leg to get him down. It could be cute, but not everyone would agree with kids doing this in public places.
People Reacting to the California Mom and Her Kid
Since the father wrote in the caption, “Can any parent relate to this!?” people made sure to tell him no. One person mocked the mom’s reaction as they said, “Gentle parenting at its finest.” Did they expect her to scream at the kid inside Costco? Another person answered the dad’s question and said, “No, I couldn’t relate. I actually parent my child.” One woman shared the same opinion and wrote, “Nope can’t relate. My kids knew better.” Another woman gave advice on how mothers should react in such situations. “Real ones know, just say BYE and walk away,” she said. When the video owner revealed in the comments that this was his kid, people started blaming him. “In that case, I’m more mad at you for recording instead of helping. I get that as parents sometimes we find humor in things like this, but he was acting up and could have even gotten hurt. This wasn’t the time to record, it was time to parent,” one person said.
Thankfully, not all comments were against the California mom. A lot of them defended her as well. “All the parents judging.. ‘my kids knew better’ tell us how?? Soo we can all be perfect parents and our kids can be boring!” one woman asked. Another woman then said, “Moms getting judged as always.” One person even praised the mom as they wrote, “Here comes all the perfect parents and child behaviorists. He’s a little kid and mom must be run off her feet all day. She still handled it well. No screaming. No tantrums. Solid commands.” Someone else said, “All these perfect parents trying to make it a flex that their kids are scared of them okay Susan.” Honestly, people are a little too harsh. They are acting like she committed a crime.
