Now that school is back in session, most parents expect the usual ups and downs, small arguments, playground disagreements, or the occasional fight. But what no parent ever wants to imagine is their child being harassed, especially at such a young age. That heartbreaking reality is exactly what one California mom faced when she learned what her second-grade daughter had gone through.
According to the mother, her daughter’s teacher pulled her aside to discuss an incident that occurred during recess. Right away, the mom sensed something was seriously wrong. The teacher explained that three boys had chased her daughter, tackled her to the ground, and pinned her down. To make matters worse, one of the boys repeatedly pinched her in an aggressive manner.
For any child, this would be a terrifying and confusing experience. For a parent, it’s the kind of news that feels crushing. The thought of their little girl being subjected to such treatment is almost unbearable.
The California mom then continues the story as she says that a teacher stopped the boys. Even if this attack lasted for a few seconds, no girl should go through this. “I just felt my stomach sink because I just couldn’t fathom how in the world my second grader needs to now understand that feeling already,” the mom said. Unfortunately, this is a feeling that all women know. “There is literally no worse feeling on the planet,” the mom said about how it feels to be pinned down by a male. She made sure to check up on her daughter, who seemed okay, but she still felt that it had impacted her daughter, and she was trying to ignore it. Now, the mother is asking people on TikTok to suggest activities that would teach her daughter self-defense. Imagine having to learn this at such a young age.
People Reacting to What Happened to the California Girl
People were left shocked and heartbroken by the story that the California mom shared. Immediately, a lot of people wanted her to take the matter seriously, as one woman wrote, “I would call the police. I’m not joking.” Another person then said that White women need to stop weaponizing the police. This made a Black woman intervene to say, “Ma’am no. As a Black woman, her daughter was assaulted. She is well within her right to file a report. Don’t do that.” She was definitely assaulted. The boys being young doesn’t mean that they are innocent. Someone else believed that talking to the school wouldn’t be helpful. “How many times have parents reported to the schools and administration and nothing ever gets done? Right. At least with police you start and actual paper trail Incase this behavior continues to escalate,” they wrote.
More comments encouraged the California mom to go to the police as two people said, “If I were you, I would file a police report. This IS NOT OK‼‼” and “Skip the school and report to police press charges.” Others were upset that the teacher didn’t inform the mother immediately. “Now hold on a damn minute. Why were you not informed IMMEDIATELY? Your daughter was ATTACKED and HARASSED. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY,” one person wrote. Waiting until the situation passes kind of feels like they don’t think the situation is serious. Another person came after the parents as they said, “Parents of boys, you’re failing us.” Parents should definitely teach their boys how to treat girls. The three boys should also face consequences because they might repeat this behavior if they get away with it.
