California voters are not very enthusiastic about seeing Gavin Newsom or Kamala Harris become a U.S. presidential candidate in 2028. A new survey was backed by California voters on social media, who claimed that they don’t see the two popular politicians as the solutions to the problems faced by the United States.
According to a new survey by Politico/UC Berkeley, Democratic California voters are becoming less enthusiastic about Newsom and Harris. The enthusiasm regarding Newsom went down from 48% to 37%, while Harris’ fell from 41% to 28% from March to September. Neither potential candidate has officially announced that they will run for President in 2028, however.
With Republican candidates, the lack of enthusiasm is even more widespread, as 93% of Republicans and 85% of independents do not seem hyped about any candidate from the state.
Californians React to New Democratic Presidential Candidate Survey
On r/California, voters used harsh words to explain why they did not care about either Democratic candidate so much. One person said: “Voted for both, quickly learned that these two clowns do not support my interests. Will not vote for them again.”
Another person commented: “Newsom and Harris still bend the knee to rich donors and are not progressive in any sort of way.” Someone else added: “I am Californian and have voted for both. I will not support either one in the primaries. They don’t represent my interests.”
Other voters in the state had a more pragmatic approach: “No Californian should be the nominee. The choice should be who can win the 7 swing states, preferably from those states or adjacent regions.”
Some Californians disagreed with the most popular view on the discussion, however, saying: “This is where the left gets it wrong year after year. Progress happens incrementally, not overnight. Yes, the left is becoming more progressive, and yes, the left is getting louder online, but the electorate as a whole is not shifting left as fast as the loud people online. If you want to keep shifting the agenda to the left, you have to play the long game.”
There is still a long way before the campaign starts in 2028, so it remains to be seen whether Newsom or Harris has enough popularity to become the nominee.
