A California woman who claims to be a UC Berkeley undergraduate says she was allegedly threatened with involuntary psychiatric commitment days after filing a grievance over her housing situation. She says she was previously expelled after reporting that a university employee raped her, allegedly because staff told her that her autism meant her account of events “couldn’t be trusted” due to supposed cognitive deficits.

The story was shared on her TikTok account under the username jamielynneford, run by a creator going by Jamie Lynne Ford. The videos have racked up several hundred thousand views. She has also claimed that TikTok suppressed her first video on the topic because it was flagged as too sensitive.

In the videos, Jamie lays out a timeline of events. She says the employee involved in the assault was later found guilty and removed from the university, and that she was readmitted for the 2026 academic year with four classes left to graduate. She says the school is now charging her more than $100,000 for those remaining classes, with the cost allegedly rising each time she requests a disability accommodation. She also says her dorm room was revoked without explanation, forcing her into costly hotel stays before she was placed in what she describes as unstable “emergency” housing.

She alleges that after filing a housing grievance on the morning of September 11, 2026, four campus police officers, resident staff, and a mental health crisis team forced their way into her dorm, falsely claiming she had called 911 about a suicide attempt. The California woman says officers told her that taking a standard, recommended dose of melatonin counted as an attempt, and that she was pressured to sign a document or be involuntarily transported to a psychiatric facility.

Jamie says 36 disability rights attorneys declined to represent her, and that she now intends to pursue legal action against Berkeley herself after finishing law school.

Internet Turns Into California Woman’s Legal Hotline

Viewers flooded the comment section in a wave of shock, sympathy and outrage, with thousands of reactions pouring in within hours. Strangers offered to show up in person, with one nearby commenter volunteering to act as backup if the student ever needed support.

Others took a more targeted approach, repeatedly tagging California Governor Gavin Newsom directly in hopes of drawing official attention to the case. “This is truly sick and grossly mishandled by Berkeley. I really, really hope you get some traction on your videos,” one user wrote.

Multiple users urged the California woman to document everything, warned that refusing a search or taking medication is not legal grounds for institutionalization, and pushed her to find a rights attorney rather than a disability specialist. Several commenters flagged sleep deprivation itself as dangerous, encouraging her to log every waking hour as evidence.

Reaction ranged from disbelief to fury, with commenters calling the university’s alleged conduct disgusting, evil and horrifying, and questioning how such treatment could be legal. Parents chimed in expressing alarm about sending their own children to the school. Amid the outrage, a running theme emerged: get a lawyer immediately, get media attention, and keep recording.

The creator herself responded to the wave of support with a somber note that the law is only as strong as its enforcement, a line that summed up the comment section’s mood better than any hashtag could.
