Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Offers Additional $20 Subscription for ‘Enhanced Headphone Mode’

No more going dark

As Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 gets closer to its release date, it has recently revealed, in partnership with a third-party company, that it will have an option for an additional $20 subscription. The additional fee is there for added spatial and audio awareness. This will apparently help players feel more immersed in their games.

This subscription follows Activision’s previous announcement of an ‘Enhanced Headphone Mode’ for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The game will employ Embody’s Immerse Spatial Audio technology for this Enhanced Headphone Mode, which will help players pinpoint the direction of sounds in a 360-degree sphere more accurately.

At the moment, Embody has two modes for its Immerse Spatial Audio feature:

  • Mission Immersion (Universal Profile) – Free
  • Mission Precision (Personalized Profile) – $19.99 (USD) Subscription for 5 years

Both modes will supposedly grant enhanced spatial awareness. However, the Personalized Profile that’s hidden behind a $20 paywall will tailor the sound depending on the shape of your ear or your ‘unique physiology.’

There’s a Free Trial for the Black Ops 6 Audio Subscription

Universal Profile users, however, can try out the Personalized Profile for free for 30 days to see if it makes a difference. It allows comparison to something that doesn’t take their ear shape into account. Those who avail of the subscription might also have to send a photo of their ears to Embody for the personalized profile to be created.

It’s worth noting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 won’t be the first game to incorporate such a subscription service. Previous games like Final Fantasy XIV and even Cyberpunk 2077 have also partnered with Embody to create the same level of audio immersion for their players.

However, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 having a competitive multiplayer component, the fair assumption is that Embody’s Immerse subscription technology might grant an advantage. After all, it could help them locate other players better.
