Infinity Ward took to the stage at the Summer Game Fest event today to talk all about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, alongside reveal the first gameplay of the campaign level Dark Water. Before we go into what was shown, have a look at the rather stunning trailer below.

What Was Shown During the Campaign Trailer?

Dark Water starts with Task Force 141 stealthily assaulting an oil rig believed to hold explosives that need to be disarmed. As the team tactically moves their way up the rig amid a heavy ocean storm, picking off any targets that present resistance, the enemy signal a flare and alert a nearby ship covered in hostiles. As you finish dispatching hostiles in a heavy firefight on top of the oil rig, you discover the remote is located on the ship, and quickly head over to support fellow members in taking it over. As containers sway left and right, both the hostile forces and TF141 struggle for cover as they clear the ship. The trailer ends off with the team about to breach the main portion of the ship and find the detonator to disarm the explosives.

Right away, fans of the series can immediately pick up on the callback to Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and the mission “The Only Easy Day…Was Yesterday” though it’s clear this is under a new setting and is vastly expanded upon. The trailer also displays a nice mix of tactical stealth gameplay combined with hefty firefights the series is infamous for. Given the mission, it’s likely the remainder of the campaign will follow suit. We’ll need to wait until the game’s release later this October to know that for sure though.

For now, I’d love to hear what you think. Does this snippet of Dark Water have you excited about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaign and the gameplay? What are you hoping for from multiplayer and Warzone 2.0? Let me know!
