On May 6, 2023, Kleavor had its first-ever debut in Pokemon Go, but many Trainers are likely wondering if Kleavor can be Shiny. Introduced back in Generation VIII, this intimidating Rock- and Bug-type Axe Pokemon is the evolution of the green Bug- and Flying-type Scyther. By default, Kleavor’s rocky exoskeleton is colored yellowish tan and sepia brown, unlike Scyther’s minty green tint. Conversely, Pokemon Go Shiny Kleavor’s khaki-colored armor is altered to a dense, grassy green. Some Trainers might prefer this look, as it better matches its previous Mantis form.
Is There a Shiny Kleavor in Pokemon Go?
Yes—there is a Shiny Kleavor in Pokemon Go! The claim that Kleavor can be Shiny is based on Niantic Lab’s official announcement for Kleavor Raid Day and Trainers encountering the Shiny themselves. Like any Shiny variant, it’s possible to know whether the Axe Pokemon is Shiny until you’ve beaten it in combat.

Glancing at a Pokemon from its Gym Raid view does not indicate its variation. It’s not until you reach the “catch encounter” that you can know if your Kleavor is Shiny in Pokemon Go. Now that the Raid Day has concluded, it is no longer possible to encounter the Shiny Axe Pokemon until its return. Based on their track record, Niantic Labs might feature Kleavor and its Shiny version in future Pokemon Go Raid rotations.
However, just because Kleavor Raid Day is over does not mean those who didn’t participate cannot get Shiny Kleavor. If a Trainer you know has the Shiny version, you can trade it with them like a normal Pokemon. However, be prepared to invest a hefty cost of Stardust to perform the trade. The Stardust cost can be pretty high if you’re not Ultra Friend or Best Friends with the owner. Therefore, you’ll need to diligently farm Stardust to eventually make the trade.
