Microsoft has been on a buying spree in recent years, and Capcom was one of the companies everyone thought could have been bought out. However, according to Capcom, the publisher would not be able to accept such a deal in any case. Capcom’s COO, Haruhito Tsujimoto, said that the company does not wish to be acquired by anyone. Nor is Capcom interested in acquiring any studios either.
According to an interview with Bloomberg, Tsujimoto was asked his opinion on company mergers and acquisitions. He said that while there have been a lot of talks in the industry, Capcom is doing just fine and would much rather focus on developing internal resources instead. He also revealed some interesting information regarding potential acquisitions:
There was once a time when we were a target, but rather than acquiring an outside company, we preferred organic growth.
It is important to train and develop human resources in-house in order to carry out growth strategies. I also believe we can utilize external partners, but we have no intention of acquiring companies.

As for acquisitions from major players like Microsoft, he replied that he would “gracefully decline” because it would have been better if there had been an equal partnership:
I would gracefully decline the offer, because I believe it would be better if we were equal partners.

Capcom Is Breaking Records, so Doesn’t Want To Be Acquired By Microsoft
Capcom’s position makes complete sense from a business perspective. The company has been hitting constant home runs in the past few years, with only a handful of troubled launches. Games like Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Monster Hunter World, and Street Fighter 6 have been reclaiming their audiences and also growing as well. Although some games like Exoprimal bombed at launch, it seems the developers are still hard at work trying to salvage it instead of dropping the title entirely.
According to the financial results for the year ending March 31, 2023. Capcom has sold around 41.7 million games over the past year. The company expects to break this record by the end of the current year as well.
