While not much is known about the Marvel Disney Plus series Echo, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will make appearances in the series, with Hawkeye‘s Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez to lead the series. The series is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia.
It continues the trend that Marvel Studios is set on establishing at least some of its popular characters from the Netflix shows into the proper MCU. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio were rivals in all three seasons of Daredevil. It was known for a while that they would return as Cox made his return with a quick cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and D’Onofrio in Hawkeye, where he was shot off-camera by Alaqua Cox (no relation to the Daredevil actor).
It is hard to imagine that the studio would bring back fan-favorite villain Kingpin to be killed off-screen. Vincent D’Onofrio, as we saw in Hawkeye, has a personal connection to Alaqua Cox’s character. It is easy to see how we would find a way to have a role in her standalone Disney Plus series. Meanwhile, Podcast The Weekly Planet claims that Charlie Cox will go on a quest to find an ally, which is claimed to be Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). If that ends up being true, it would mark the return of Ritter and put her in the larger MCU rather than the Netflix show, which was tossed to the side with a few nods to events in the MCU.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio Might Appear in the ‘Echo’ Series
Fans and the two stars have longed to make a stamp on the MCU. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio elevated the gritty Netflix series to be a standout hit, despite the eventual cancellations of every series on the platform. With a larger array of characters and stories built across all of the movies and shows, there is a lot more room for them to develop into something new for fans.
Daredevil pitted the two characters in the first season and the third, with Kingpin making appearances in the second season with The Punisher (Jon Bernthal).
No return for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), or Iron Fist (Finn Jones). Due to the popular demand, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returned the soonest, but it is possible to see others make their comeback. With so many shows and moves in the works with intricate connections and surprise cameos, anything is possible in the MCU.
