The internet has been shipping Keke Palmer and Hot Ones host Sean Evans since a kiss with digitally added fireworks, and now Palmer is saying out loud what everyone watching already suspected. The Illinois natives, who both grew up in the Chicago area before conquering different corners of entertainment, have circled each other on camera for years.
On Monday, Palmer, 32, finally addressed it head-on. “Our chemistry is genuine … I couldn’t force that if I tried,” she said on TODAY with Jenna and Sheinelle. “We always felt that chemistry.“
The moment that lit the fuse came last September, on her record third visit to the wings-and-questions gauntlet. As credits rolled, Palmer turned the tables on her host: “I know we’ve just had some wings, but I thought that maybe we could just have a quick smooch to see if there’s a spark.” Evans did not hesitate: “Let’s do it, let’s do it.” The show cut the kiss in slow motion with fireworks added behind them, Palmer announced “the spark was sparking,” and Evans delivered the line of the year: “When I’m dying, and my life flashes before my eyes, I’ll have that snapshot.“
The slow burn goes back further. Palmer had already survived the wings in 2017 and 2021 before Evans, the show’s host and co-creator, confessed his crush in a 2023 Chicken Shop Date interview. Host Amelia Dimoldenberg guessed Jennifer Lawrence and Jack Harlow before he admitted it was Palmer, calling her a “very charming woman.” Palmer responded on Instagram: “It was love at first hot wing.” This May, he appeared on her podcast, and weeks later, a photo of the two at dinner sent the rumor mill into overdrive, reaching what Today called a fever pitch.
Palmer, for her part, is asking everyone to breathe. “I was gagged that everybody was ready to marry me off,” she laughed on TODAY, explaining the connection began naturally: “Essentially, we met at work. We had chemistry. Work husband, work wife.” At Cannes in June, she put it her own way: “That’s my guy… We just take it day by day. One wing at a time, so to speak.“

Fans called it the moment the fireworks hit the screen. “He seemed so giddy after that little peck lol I really hope this happens for real!” one Reddit user wrote after the September episode, while another joked he was “convinced his whole career making this show was so this moment could happen.” A third kept it simple: “I actually ship this.“
Ten months after the fireworks, the spark is officially still sparking, both stars are letting it simmer at their own pace, and the whole thing traces back to a plate of progressively hotter wings. Somewhere, the internet is taking full credit.
