Popular Buzzfeed Animation Shorts Chikn Nuggit Set to Become Animated Series
Chikn Nuggit is the same of a series of comedy web shorts created by Kyra Kupetsky, the lead animator at Buzzfeed Animation Lab and the lead voice actress for the studio’s The Good Advice Cupcake. The series was first released via TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram in October 2020 and follows the antics of a long-eared dog named Chikn Nuggit and his various food-themed friends, such as French Fwy, Isream, etc.
The series soon exploded in popularity for its gender-inclusivity, comedy, and animation, and has garnered over 300 videos and over 1 billion views across social media. The social media channels for the shorts also have over 8 million followers and counting.
The Chikn Nuggit TV series will be produced in collaboration with Buzzfeed and Frederator Network subsidiary Genius Brands International, Inc. (soon to be rebranded as Kartoon Studios). The deal was struck in February 2023 and provides Genius Brands the opportunity to develop and produce long-form animated digital media based on Buzzfeed’s original IPs.
The Chikn Nuggit TV series will be among the first of these. No release date for the series has been shared at this time. Isabel Schultz, Frederator Network’s Director of Development, will be in charge of global content sales for the series.
Genius Brands’ consumer products division will develop the Chikn Nuggit TV series’ retail program and operate a full IP slate in partnership with BuzzFeed Animation Lab.
