Christine Brown is looking to add some structure to Kody Brown‘s relationship with daughter Truly, 14. Sister Wives fans know that Kody’s involvement in the teen’s life has fluctuated amid the struggles in recent years. Now, Christine is seeking out a formal arrangement, which also covers finances.
Legal documents obtained by In Touch indicate that Christine is taking Kody to court for matters of child custody and child support. The first step in that process is establishing paternity.
Why isn’t Kody on Truly’s birth certificate?
Kody Brown doesn’t appear on his teenage daughter’s birth certificate. In fact, the same is true of all six of the children he’s shared with Christine Brown. Because Christine was Kody’s third wife — following Meri and Janelle — their marriage wasn’t legal, just spiritual. In order not to alert others to his polygamist nature, Kody stayed off the birth certificate of the children he shared with his spiritual wives.
The paternity test is part of a larger legal process. Paternity must be established in a situation where the parent is not on the birth certificate. Once that is determined, they can move forward with establishing custody and a schedule, as well as any necessary child support payments.
Christine is also asking for help keeping the peace
In addition to those measures, Christine Brown also asked the court for a domestic relations injunction. The injunction “stops both parties from harassment, domestic violence, canceling or modifying services, taking children for non-routine travel without court orders or permission, and demeaning or disparaging the other party.”
It’s no secret there continues to be bad blood between Kody and Christine. The measure is a responsible way of making sure Truely doesn’t get caught in the middle any more than she already has been.
