Civilization 6 was one of the best releases of last year, and some might even argue that it was 2016’s game of the year. We quite liked it. The newest update to the game, entitled the “Australian Summer” update, will add several new features to the 4X game, encouraging plenty more evenings of “just one more turn.”
The splashy announcement from the Australian Summer update is the addition of the Australian civilization to the game. Unfortunately, just like the release of Poland, the new civ is premium DLC that will set you back $5. This premium DLC will unlock the new civilization and a new, expansion-based scenario where players rush to explore the continent in a very limited amount of turns. This is the first time Australia has appeared in a Civilization game.
Even more consequential than the release of a new civ is the updates addition of modding tools to Civilization 6. Although these tools may not effect the game too much in the short-term, these completely free tools will allow the level of content in Civilization 6 to increase dramatically over the game’s lifespan. Think of the huge amounts of scenarios, units, and new civilizations people will be able to create with these developer tools at their fingertips.
In addition to the premium Australia DLC and the release of modding tools, the new update for Civilization 6 includes the usual list of balance tweaks and bug fixes, as well as support for team play in multiplayer. To read the full list of changes for the patch, check out the official blog.
