Colorado Angry As New Law Cuts Immigrants Off From SNAP Benefits ‘Don’t want my taxes supporting illegals’

A looming deadline is making Democrats angry. Colorado’s immigrant communities are preparing for a major shift in food assistance eligibility that will take effect soon. Starting May 1, 2026, nearly 9,000 non-citizens across Colorado will be officially stripped of their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. Liberals are upset about this, while conservative voices are relieved their taxes aren’t feeding those they feel are undeserving.

In a report and a tweet by 9News Denver, the upcoming deadline for the Big Beautiful Bill will be enacted, cutting off thousands from benefits overnight. The move comes as the state implements Trump’s bill, H.R. 1, which restricts taxpayer-funded food stamps to U.S. citizens. For thousands of refugees, illegal immigrants, and parolees living in Colorado, the April payment hitting their EBT cards this week will be their last, at least for the foreseeable future.

The policy shift has started some serious drama with discourse surrounding the nature of the cuts. On one side, proponents of the law argue that the measure is a necessary step toward keeping resources healthy for Americans. While others feel the law is too harsh and unfairly targets a section of people already dealing with hard times. Here is what some people had to say about the new SNAP benefit cuts.

“You mean ILLEGALS will not receive SNAP— there I fixed it for you.”

“This only affects 1.5% of recipients! And I don’t want my taxes supporting illegals to get free food.”

“So 9,000 illegal immigrants are losing their fraud benefits. Got it.”

“They probably think those benefits should go to those who need them most, not those who are taking the system.”

As the clock ticks toward the May deadline, the entire state is bracing for the fallout. With state-level safety nets vanishing, thousands of Colorado folks will be wondering where their SNAP benefit will come from.
