A Colorado man, Josh Blue, claims he was discriminated against on a Royal Caribbean cruise for being disabled. The alleged incident occurred over the summer when he took a vacation with his girlfriend. His video has over 98,000 views, over 1,000 comments, and nearly 9,000 likes.

On the second night, security woke him up at 1 a.m. He explains, “A group of teenagers reported back to their parents and then reported [to security] that I was trying to abduct them.” The Colorado man clarifies what happened. The evening prior, he and his girlfriend were walking up the stairs behind a group of teenagers. He says they were never closer than “eight to ten feet from these kids.” Allegedly, the group saw how he was walking and proceeded to run, yelling, “He’s coming after us!”

@royal Caribbean saw my disability and treated me like a threat. I am speaking out because many disabled people have no platform, no protection, and no one willing to listen. If this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. Watch. Share. Demand better. #RoyalCaribbean #DisabilityRights #StandWithJoshBlue

The reaction didn’t surprise him, as he’s received similar treatment before over how he moves. However, he calls the incident hurtful and says, “They saw my disability and treated me like a threat.” He claims that security informed him they’d be revoking his alcohol privileges, “because they thought [he] was drunk.” The Colorado man and his girlfriend explained that he was disabled and that he had cerebral palsy. Furthermore, he also said that cameras clearly show he wasn’t doing anything. The man says, “They just basically woke me up to tell me that I was a monster.” He also insinuates that security was rude to him even after learning the truth and kept referring to his disability as a “condition.”

Several Offer Colorado Man Support

Many offer the Colorado man support in the TikTok video’s comments. One commenter calls the situation infuriating to hear and says, “Brother, I am with you.” Meanwhile, several feel he is owed apologies at the very least. One says, “Security should’ve located the parents and the kids and made them apologize and revoked their privileges.” Another agrees, “Royal Caribbean did you wrong and should have apologized. Shame on them.”

However, most offer words of encouragement: “Please don’t let them get you down, brother. Hugs and keep spreading the word to educate the people!” Another commenter says, “Society still has so far to go in disability education and awareness. I really hope you get an apology from them.” Meanwhile, many have suggested he take legal action. One comment reads, “I’m sorry this happened to you. It feels like a lawsuit you should pursue.”

The Colorado man chose to share the alleged incident as a way to raise awareness for how those with disabilities are treated daily. He has yet to respond to any comments.
