As a sport, Hockey wouldn’t be nearly as popular as it is today without all the brawls out on the ice. However, it appears that it may be just as easy to get into an altercation in the stands. During an AHL game, a broadcaster for the Abbotsford Canucks was reportedly hit with a chair from a crazy Colorado hockey fan. It seems this fan decided to take matters into their own hands and got right into the action with that chair.
Reports from Suggest state that the incident took place during the Canuck’s Pacific Division Game 5 win over the Colorado Eagles. The event was held at the Blue Arena in Loveland, Colorado, and saw many rowdy fans find their way to their seats. However, this Colorado fan was ready to do some damage, and the first period wasn’t even over yet. Some video footage has been released on social media where viewers can hear the moment broadcaster Brandon Astle was hit by the chair. However, some fans found this incident extremely funny online as they laughed at Brandon’s response. One X user even said, “This guy is a legend,” regarding Brandon Astle.
Colorado Hockey Fan Hits Canucks Broadcaster With a Chair During The Game
“Got some yahoo chirping at me from behind, Get out of here. What was he doing? Security! Try that again,” fans can hear Astle saying to the chair swinging fan. The video then cuts to a later moment with only 57 seconds left in the first period. Viewers can hear Brandon audibly shocked by the situation. “I’m fired up. He threw my chair at me. Hit me right in the back of the leg,” he explained. “What was he doing here? Unreal. Have another beer.”
Later on, Brandon Astle would go on his personal social media and apologize. The broadcaster seemingly felt ashamed of how he had handled the situation. Astle states that he was in shock and that something like this had never happened to him before. While it may have been an unprofessional reaction from Bradon, who could blame him? However, the situation is over, and hopefully, Brandon won’t have to deal with unruly Colorado hockey fans like this again.
It has been reported that stadium security had handled the fan after the incident. However, there are not a lot of comments on the chair-throwing fan from the Colorado Eagles. It appears the organization wants to move past the situation and see it as a closed case already. As for Brandon Astle, it seems he is no worse off after getting hit by a chair, maybe just a little leg soreness. What a crazy experience for a hockey broadcaster in the thick of a playoff game.
