There’s been various speculation that Danai Gurira was set to leave The Walking Dead. Those rumors have now been announced to be true.

The American actress plays Michonne, the bad-ass, katana-wielding character who had grown to be a fan favorite for many. She has played a large role in seven of the shows seasons but an exclusive report showed that she has signed her last contract with AMC.

This last contract specifies that whilst she will appear in season 10, it will be in a limited form. Outside of these cameos and small appearances across a handful of episodes, Danai Gurira is officially finished with The Walking Dead. If there is one other piece of promising news it would be that the planned The Walking Dead movies could feature her too in some form.

It’s not all that surprising that Danai Gurira is choosing to move on as the talented actress has climbed to a level of fame that arguably outweighs The Walking Dead. Her portrayal of Marvel’s Okoye in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame is a particular highlight of her very successful acting career.

Her role of Okoye got her nominated for multiple MTV awards. On top of that, she even managed to win both the People’s Choice Award for Action Movie Star of 2018 and the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress. Clearly, there’s no doubt her moving on will be a huge loss for both The Walking Dead fans and AMC alike.

Fans of the series have plenty to be excited for though with The Walking Dead returning to screens tomorrow, February 10th, at 9 PM eastern time. It’ll be picking up after a certain characters death and the reveal of the Whisperers. I’m not saying any more on that though because let’s be honest, no one likes a spoiler.
