Daniel Radcliffe and Bill Paxton are going head to head in the latest BBC drama, The Gamechangers; the story behind Grand Theft Auto’s rise to infamy after the Hot Coffee mod in San Andreas. D-rad (playing Sam Houser) is going full beard and brass as the titular GTA creator while Bill Paxton is playing Jack Thompson, everyone’s favorite gaming baddie.

As Paxton tries to bring down the hammer of morality onto Radcliffe and company, we will see the inner working behind the controversy that was GTA: San Andreas. At the moment details are sparse, especially for any announcement of an American showing/adaptiaon — the website Deadline has more details on what we an expect in the coming weeks:

The Gamechangers, according to BBC press material cited by the Guardian, “is for an adult audience and has not been authorized by the producers of Grand Theft Auto” but “is based on court documents and interviews with many of those involved …”

The drama is written by James Wood (Rev, Ambassadors), directed by Owen Harris (Kill Your Friends, Black Mirror, Holy Flying Circus) and produced by Jim Spencer (Pride, All Stars, Monsters). It airs Sept. 15 on BBC2.
