During an executive session at the TCA press tour last Monday, Netflix Vice President of original content Cindy Holland stated that the next season of Daredevil will be a return to form for the series.

Holland recently told Deadline both why the show was delayed, as well as why season 3 would be worth the wait.

“The biggest issue was the timing of production and launching of The Defenders because what that meant is we had to shut down all of the shows, so all the actors be available for The Defenders so it’s more function of that. There is no problem with this season, I think it’s fantastic, it’s real return to form in my view.”

When Daredevil debuted on Netflix back in 2015, the series blew fans away. While some of that can be attributed to the low expectations set by the movie, the show’s action and acting set it apart from other Marvel products at the time. Outside of the next series, Jessica Jones season 1, the Marvel Netflix shows have slowly been deteriorating according to critics and fans.

Holland’s secret weapon for turning things around: showrunner in Erik Oleson. With a solid resume in crime procedural and superhero drama, CBS’ Unforgettable and The CW’s Arrow, Oleson is the perfect pick. On top of that, season 3 will see the beloved antagonist Wilson “Kingpin” Fist,  and thus actor Vincent D’Onofrio, return to the spotlight.

At the moment, there is no release date for Daredevil season 3, but companion show Iron First begins streaming its second season through Netflix on Friday, September 7.
