Dark Horse, a well-known company behind works like Hellboy comics, books like the Hyrule Historia and Uncharted 4 art book, Game of Thrones figures, and much more besides, will soon add another title to their extensive list. “Briggs Land” by creator Brian Wood is due for release this summer.
Set in a rural secessionist community, matriarch Grace Briggs takes over leadership of the movement from her husband and ignites an internal war with not only the rest of the community but her own family as well. As the violence escalates, the idea of the federal government bringing its might to their front door becomes a scary-real possibility.
The comic won’t be limited to printed page. Network AMC plans to air a television series based on the new crime drama. Wood stated that he has wanted to work with AMC for some time, and Briggs Land is the perfect opportunity. He will act as writer and executive producer for the show, along with John Hodges and Ravi Nandan.
Briggs Land is being written and illustrated with the help of artists Mack Chater, Tula Lotay, and Lee Loughridge. “It’s the culmination of everything I’ve done in my twenty years as a comics creator, bringing socially conscious and politically charged themes to the page, putting some of the most unsettling elements of American culture under scrutiny,” says Wood.
Wood’s new comic series will hit the shelves at comic book stores on August 17, 2016. The air date for the television series is not yet known.
