The US release of Dark Souls III is just around the corner. If you can’t get enough of dying, you may want to turn your eyes to Kickstarter. According to Tabletop Gaming, Steamforged Games is partnering with Bandai Namco to bring a board game to the crowdfunding site based on the series.

“As Dark Souls fans, we could not be more excited to be given the honour of developing a board game that embraces everything that makes Dark Souls the deep, compelling game experience that it is. The Dark Souls board game will be launched on Kickstarter during April 2016,” reads the announcement. There is no indication of what type of board game it will be, nor any mention of mechanics. Luckily, it won’t be too long for the campaign to start and we can find out how the game plays.

Steamforged Games got started with the release of Guild Ball, a bizarre combination of sports and war. It was also crowdfunded through Kickstarter (as more and more board games are recently), ultimately raising over triple what the developers were asking for. One thing that should bode well for the upcoming game is that Guild Ball has some seriously beautiful miniatures. With the dramatic art style and crazy monster design in the Souls universe, the board game version of Dark Souls will surely bring some awesome miniatures to the table.

It will be interesting to see how Steamforged Games brings the nuanced and deliberate combat of Dark Souls to the board game format. Stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for more information on both the board game and the release of the third video game in the series.
